For long Hollywood writers have been underpaid and cruelly muscled out into the sidelines. But things have started to change in the movie industry and the balance of power appears to be shifting.

On Monday, just after the clock struck midnight, the writers’ strike commenced. About 12,000 movie and television writers bruised and battered by decades of underpayment and injustice, marched on the sidewalks of Los Angeles in a bid to change the way income is divided at the moment.

I always wondered if there’s a movie that can win it all i.e. win all the awards. I guess I was kind of right. Here’s one such movie. ‘There will be Blood’ seems to have won the heart and the minds of the audience. The drama was nominated for multiple awards at the 2007 Movie Critics Awards.

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, this is an unique blend of old Western and drama. The movie advertises that there will be greed and vengeance. Finally, there will be blood. The story is based on a Texas family. The aspects of greed, violence, demand for oil, as well as religion have been captured pretty well in this movie.

Hollywood came alive on he night of October 24th 2007 when stars of the industry gathered together at the world famous El Capitan Theatre for the premier of Touchstone Pictures ‘Dan In Real Life’. Dressed in dark suit with grey shirt was Steve Carell the male lead of the movie who made his presence felt at the red carpet where he was noted flashing smiles for everyone around.

For fans of the Chronicles of Narnia have some great news to relish on. The first official trailer of the next installment ‘Prince Caspian’ by Walt Disney Pictures has been launched across the web. Moviegoers now across the globe can now feast their eyes on this trailer especially after the huge anticipation that’s been building around the movie since its inception.

The trailer was reported to be first shown ‘Entertainment Tonight’ before it was distributed across the internet in more than sixty countries.

For years, Hollywood scriptwriters have been sidelined to the margins when it came to earning money from the movie industry. Film actors and actresses, director and producers would run away with the bulk of the revenue, leaving the writers to feed on crusts and crumbs. But no more now. Time is rapidly changing.

The call for a strike by the Writers Guild of America for the first time in nearly 20 years comes after decades of underpayment and lack of deserved respect. The job of a writer is a hard one and often attains the degree of manual labour but their desires and demands are rarely heard. A movie or a television show might appear glossy with the stunning looks of the stars but without the words scripted by the writers, there can be no movie or television shows.
