There is a rich tradition of people who make large amounts of money within professions where emotions play a significant part in their success (like sports, music and acting) making highly emotional decisions about what to do with that money after they’ve flaunted it for awhile. Sooner or later, we all have to become some kind of investors, after all. But Las Vegas is a very special place, in that avarice and grandiosity are the rule, instead of the exception. And when celebrities try their hands at owning restaurants, something of their personal brand always comes through. Let’s look at a few examples of what a celebrity place looks like.
“Lagasse’s Bar, Book and Bam!” is a restaurant and sports bar owned by Emeril Lagasse (which is kind of obvious, judging by the name). While you won’t find Emeril in the kitchen, you will find extremely comfortable couches (which he had nothing to do with) and flat screen TVs showing sports (even though I doubt Emeril has done any running lately). And on their site, they advertise that they’ve got an impressive selection of beer, which leads me to wonder where Emeril comes in, aside from his name.
Wolfgang Puck also lends his name to something – fortunately, it’s a bit less “generic high end pub” and a little more “limousine liberal eatery.” Wolfgang’s Springs Café endeavors to keep it American, with American eats made from regionally produced ingredients. And the fact that it’s all organic does a lot to pad the price; I mean, build the quality of the offerings.
And, of course, celebrities in Sin City don’t “manage” their own places. They hire people to handle the books, maintain the staffing and generally handle all the “little people stuff.” To say nothing of the fact that Las Vegas property management companies line up around the block to offer to “take care” of their buildings.
