According to the grapevine, Mira Nair, director of the critically acclaimed and extremely successful movie ‘Namesake’, plans to push Tabu’s name for an Oscar nomination this year.
Apart from Tabu, actor Irrfan Khan played the central role in the movie, based on the novel by the same name by Jhumpa Lahiri.
But, why Tabu, and why not Irrfan Khan?

According to a source, close to the project,
Irrfan is excellent. But he lacks what the Americans are looking for in their Oscars recipe. Tabu is exotic, glamorous and mysterious. This is her first real exposure to the Western audience. And they’re lapping up her Bengali act, thick accent and all. On top of that she’s also wowing the westerners with her performance in Cheeni Kum.
Well, this is definitely not the first time, Tabu has won accolades for her sterling performance. Chandni Bar, Virasat, Maqbool, Hu Tu Tu, Astitva, Maachis are just a few of the movies, which have vowed critics, as well as all lovers of good cinema.
As usual, even though Tabu is happily oblivious to all the hype and hoopla, a lot of global cinemastes are positive about Tabu’s winning the Oscars.
I don’t know about you, but I am definitely keeping my toes and fingers crossed for Tabu!
