The Good Shepherd, Robert De Niro’s first directing work since his debut ‘A Bronx Tale,’ in 1993 records the history of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) viewed by one man Edward Wilson (played by Matt Damon).

Edward, a student of Yale University is recruited to join the Order of Skull and Bones, a secret society designed to breed the world leaders of tomorrow. He was to spy his English professor Dr. Fredericks (played by Michael Gambon). During the Second World War, General Sullivan (Robert De Niro) recruits him to the new Office of Strategic Services (the precursor to the CIA).

Wilson’s idealism is worn-out by a growing suspicious nature, reflective of a world settling into the long fear of the Cold War. At last, he sacrifices everything in the name of the serving the country and even his devoted wife Clover (Angelina Jolie) and son also suffered for the sake of his idealism and steely determination.
