famous five
The first novel I ever read was ‘Five Go off in a Caravan’ by Enid Blyton when I was eleven years old, and so started my love and passion for reading.

The Famous Five series fascinated me and took me on adventurous journeys through moors, beaches, islands and the cliffs. I grew up learning to be brave and loyal from Julian, Dick, George (Georgina), Anne and Timmy (Timothy).
Almost every child’s favorite, Famous Five is Enid Blyton’s most popular and celebrated series of children’s books. The series began in 1942, when the first book, ‘Five on a Treasure Island’ was published. The series has gone on to become amongst the best-loved stories ever to have been written for children.

The books went on to become a television series produced by Southern Television for the ITV network in the UK, in 26 episodes of thirty minutes in 1978. A later TV series was produced around 1996 in the UK.

Unlike the previous series, this was a period piece, set in 1953, and also unlike the previous series it dramatized all the original books.

The exciting news for the fans of the series is that the five are soon going to be back on television. The new series will feature the four teenagers all grown up. They would have gone their separate ways, until a new mystery compels the former investigators to reunite. The sad news is that Timmy would have died and is replaced by one of his descendants. These new programmes will remain faithful to the themes of mystery and adventure central to Enid Blyton’s classic series of books.
