
The magic and enchantment of a world called Narnia, that exists beyond the back of the wardrobe was created over 50 years ago by C.S. Lewis. Since then, this land of wonders and fantasy has been a constant source attraction and entertainment for people all over the world, especially the children.
Now, it’s the time for the second in the series of the seven books penned by Lewis to hit the big screen. It has also been announced by the producers at this year’s Comic-Con that viewers can expect one big screen installment of The chronicles of Narnia to come up by May, till the next few years.
The second film, that is titled The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is based on Prince Caspian, the second published novel in C. S. Lewis’ children’s fantasy series and it is the second in the series of on screen representation by Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media, following The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It is reported that this second film in the series will cost at least $100 million.
This film will qualify as a British film under the U.K.’s new cultural test, even though the majority of filming will take place in the Czech Republic.
The first Narnia movie, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, shot largely in New Zealand, could not qualify as a British film under the old tax rules, abolished in April.
Prince Caspian finds the Pevensie siblings pulled back into the land of Narnia, where a thousand years have passed since they left.
The children are once again enlisted to join the colorful creatures of Narnia in combating an evil villain, King Miraz who prevents the rightful Prince from ruling the land. The true heir to the throne is young Prince Caspian, King of Old Narnians.
Directed once again by veteran director Andrew Adamson, screenplay by Andrew Adamson and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and produced by Mark Johnson, Andrew Adamson and Philip Steuer, the film reunites the original cast and creative team behind the blockbuster first film in the series.
William Moseley, Anna Popplewell, Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley will return as the Pevensie children. With Ben Barnes playing the role of Prince Caspian, this movie originally scheduled for a December 14, 2007 release, but now it has been pushed back to a May 16, 2008 premiere.
