Steven Spielberg’s movie version of Alice Walker’s The Color Purple, released in 1985, saw the emergence of a ‘legend in the making’, Oprah Winfrey. Playing the character, ‘Sofia’ in the movie won her an Academy Award nomination.
However, two years ago, she turned producer making her broadway debut of the musical of the same name, The Color Purple. The 53 year old, World’s only Black Billionaire, could not contain her excitement that the stage show for the first time premiered in her city, Chicago. Winfrey walked the red carpet last Thursday on the occasion.
The Oprah Winfrey Show that she has been presenting since 1986 is a huge success not only in US but around the globe. Her philanthropic efforts widely known, she was noted by Business Week as one of America’s top 50 most generous contributors, having given an estimated $250 million
Her quote that
it doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from - the ability to triumph begins with you always,
undoubtedly inspired a lot many people who could not stop praising Winfrey’s achievements.
