Mel Gibson will take a trip to Mexico next week for a private viewing of his ancient Mayan epic film ‘Apocalypto,’ but will not attend the premiere. Gibson also won’t give any news conference regarding the film, his publicist Alan Nierob said Thursday.
The title ‘Apocalypto’ which in Greek means ‘an unveiling and a new beginning,’ has been filmed entirely in the Mayan language. It tells the story Mayan people — who built a civilization in Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras
‘Apocalypto’ has been the subject of controversy many times. Firstly, the film was labeled as a racist film and held responsible for angering the members of a culture it portrays. The film recently aroused the controversy in Italy over no age limit.
But ‘Apocalypto’ was also praised for its ‘blood-and-guts actions’, ‘breathtaking vistas’, and ‘bruising beauty.’
“Apocalypto” has broken box-office records for foreign-language films in its opening weekends in several countries, including Britain. It has also earned a Golden Globe nomination for best foreign-language film.
Gibson has been giving a number of good movies such as ‘Braveheart,’ ‘The Passion of the Christ,’ and again he comes with ‘Apocalypto.’
