Aussie director Mel Gibson, who was applauded for his blockbuster film ‘Apocalypto,’ an epic movie about the demise of the Mayan civilization, now plans to shoot his next savage, non-English epic in Panama. Actually Gibson has set his eyes on two new movies, for which he may soon visit locations in Panama.
According to a news release Gibson dined Sunday night with Ruben Blades, a tourism spokesman and singer, who suggested his next project should be a remake of the 1950 film noir ‘Panic in the Streets.’
The movie is about a doctor and a policeman in New Orleans who have only 48 hours to locate a killer infected with bubonic plague.
On the other hand it is rumored that Panamanian filmmaker Jose Severino was in negotiations with Gibson to produce a film that would center on Spanish explorer Vasco Nunez de Balboa, the first European to see the Pacific Ocean from its eastern shore.
Gibson has been giving a number of good movies such as ‘Braveheart’ which received two Academy Awards. ‘The Passion of the Christ’ and ‘Apocalypto’ are another blockbuster films that were highly praised.
