Clint Eastwood seeking to reveal the events that happened at the Japanese island of Iwo Jima during the 2nd World War has recently finished shooting the dual project “Flags of our Fathers” and “Letters from Iwo Jima”.
“Flags of our Fathers” was shot earlier this year; it is the story of the invading American troops while “Letters from Iwo Jima” is the story of events unfolding on the other side.
The central character of “Letters from Iwo Jima”, Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai) plays the brilliant Lt. General who leads the Japanese side to a honorable defeat and not a rout as was expected.
This movie was picked as the Best Film of the year 2006 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
The runner up film, “The Queen” portrays the life of Queen Elizabeth 2.
The other award winners include director Paul Greengrass for “United 93″ while Eastwood was runner up for both “Flags of our Fathers” and “Letters of Iwo Jima”.
“The Queen” won the awards for best actress, screenplay and supporting actor.
The National Board of Review of Motion Pictures also chose “Letters from Iwo Jima” as the best film of 2006.
It is to be released on 20th December.
