‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star, Johnny Depp, one of Hollywood’s most risk-taking stars, will play the rock star in a biopic.
Now rumors say Johnny Depp is the top choice to play Freddie Mercury. Poodly Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed that a movie about the band is on the cards, and Depp is in early negotiations to take the role of the legendary rocker.
Robert de Niro’s company, Tribeca Productions, is said to be behind the project. May described Depp as ‘fantastic’. He added,
He would be a worthy counterpart for Freddie on screen. I don’t think I can say any more right now.
It is expected from Jeffery Shapiro, drummer for Queen tribute band Under Pressure, would be lined up for the role and considers Depp to be the ‘perfect choice.’
Shapiro stated,
I always had [in mind] somebody with a theatrical background. Not just to wear the costumes, but to wear the actual vibe of Freddie Mercury. Depp’s such a likable guy. The fact that he used Keith Richards [as inspiration] for ‘Pirates’ - you can’t go wrong.
In addition, the guy also strongly believes that Depp and Mercury actually have a lot in common.
He said,
They are unique in a way. They carry themselves regally but always deliver. A bit foppish at times, but you never have any question that they are good.
