Da Vinci and Dan Brown had created enough controversy when the book and movie were released. But after more then a year of its release of the movie ,’The Da Vinci Code’ is under the shade of controversies yet again. It is being investigated by the Italian state attorneys on the grounds of obscenity as viewed from a religious viewpoint.
The complaint, which was filed by a group of clergy, earlier this year, says the film violates Article 528 of Italy’s penal code. A criminal investigation is being opened against the film. Director Ron Howard and author Dan Brown are also included in the list that names people against whom the complaint has been filed. What the complainants want is still unclear. If the judge finds the defendants guilty, they can face a jail time of about three months and fine up to 103 euros. Not only this, they will also have a criminal record to their names.
This may affect the Howard’s production that has begun production of ‘Angels and Demons’, the sequel to Da Vinci. An official at the Civitavecchia state prosecutor said he wasn’t sure why the case is being opened now. Instead of the criticism by the religious groups, especially the Christian fraternity this is the first time, the film has been moved to court.
