When it was announced that Pierce Brosnan was to leave the Bond movies and Daniel Craig was to step in, I was devastated. Devastated I tell you! After all, what credentials did the blonde Brit have to play the most loved of spies? But the sad fact is my opinion doesn’t really count. So out came Casino Royale with Daniel Craig playing the too-cool British agent.
Did it change my opinion? Hell yes! And if that butt-kicking action wasn’t enough, the £300 million, the movie made at the box office, was enough to remove any of the lingering doubts. And it seems the producers, too, realize the fact that Craig is essential to the maintenance of the franchisee and that’s why they’ve paid the Brit handsomely to secure his assent to do two more Bond films.
Mr. Craig has been offered a whopping £13 million contract for two more outings as James Bond. This amount makes him the highest paid British actor. The 39-year-old is expected to receive £5 million for the next flick and another £8 million for a third outing. The (un)surprising thing is that the production house Eon offered him twice the amount that they originally had discussed.
Looks like Eon is doing everything to keep the agent under tabs. As for Craig, maybe he will visit a Casino Royale after that $26 million cheque.
