James Bond flick Casino Royale has been critically acknowledged at the Empire Awards. It has won awards for best film and two other acting prizes. Readers of the magazine voted Daniel Craig as the best actor and co-star Eva Green as the best female newcomer.

The award for best British film went to 9/11 drama United 93.

Over 50,000 people participated in the voting process, which also acknowledged Superman star Brandon Routh and Martin Scorcese’s The Departed.

Magazine’s assistant editor, Ian Freer said,

I’m delighted that Empire readers have decided that Casino Royale is the best film of the year. We’re proud that real cinema-goers have the good taste to do something neither the critics’ awards or industry prizes managed to do - really get behind the reinvention of James Bond as a great British triumph.

The award ceremony will be held in November this year.
