The German Government recently imposed a ban on actor Tom Cruise and the makers from his new movie to use a memorial World War II site. But the Germans have reversed the ban as of today 14th September 2007.
In the upcoming movie, the legendary actor Tom Cruise plays Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who was executed for plotting to kill Adolf Hitler in 1944. The makers of the movie initially requested the German Government to film at the original site where the execution took place. This request was rejected at the start, but the government has reversed its decision when the film makers convinced the officials that the movie shows Germany in good light post the war.
Rumours had it that the reason for the rejection by the Germans was due to Cruise’s religion Scientology (is a body of beliefs and related practices that not only encompasses a spiritual rehabilitation philosophy and techniques but it also covers topics such as morals, ethics, detoxification, education and management). But a government spokesman later confirmed that the rejection was keeping in mind the dignity of the execution place.
Film company United Artists said, “It was extremely grateful to the German government for allowing us to film at the site. We pledge to take special care to respect its dignity and keep our activities there within the guidelines laid down by the government”
Directed by Bryan Singer, Valkyrie - named after Operation Valkyrie, has finally been granted permission to shoot at the memorial place called ‘the Bendler Block’ after all the rejections and confusions.
