Dreamgirls starlet Anika Noni Rose is Disney’s new princess. Tony award winner, Rose, will give voice to Maddy in Disney’s forthcoming animated musical film ‘The Frog Princess.’
Rose will lend her voice to the film’s 19-year-old-heroine, the first African-American Disney princess, for the story which is reset in 1920’s New Orleans.
The film will be directed and written by Ron Clements and John Musker. And Randy Newman is writing the music.
Maddy will be the first black princess in Disney’s long line of blockbuster princesses.
Rose co-starred alongside Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce Knowles as the third Dream in last year’s big hit ‘Dreamgirls.’
And you know that Hudson and Alicia Keys also auditioned for the role. Even Tyra Banks had tried her hands for this role. And I was very sure that Hudson will be the studio’s first choice. Never mind Hudson, better try next time!
‘The Fog Princess’ will be released in theatres in 2009.
