Daniel Pearl, American journalist, was investigating the case of Richard Reid, shoe bomber and the alleged links between Pakistan’s ISI and Al-Qaeda, when he was kidnapped and murdered in Karachi, Pakistan. The death that sparked worldwide outcry and condemnation, the dastardly act killing Wall Street Reporter in early 2002 was seen as a nauseating aftershock to the events of 9/11.
Mariane Pearl, the slain journalist’s wife, came up with a memoir A Mighty Heart in 2003, in remembrance of her bereaved husband. Michael Winterbottom, a prolific British filmmaker, who has to his credits movies like Welcome to Sarajevo, Wonderland, decided to cast Angelina Jolie in Mariane’s role in the film adaptation of A Mighty Heart, using the
same title. Daniel Pearl is to be played by actor Dan Futterman.

Angelina’s frenetic search for her husband post his kidnap in the movie, will be markedly distinguished from her other varied roles in Hollywood. She will be donning a new avatar that promises the audience to experience a rough side of the actress. The role demands toughness and Angelina we hope will fully justify the travails of Mariane on celluloid.
‘A Mighty Heart’ is slated for release on June 22, 2007.
