
Sid Ganis is re-elected as the President by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). The AMPAS is known for its most prominent and the most watched film awards, the Oscars in the world. Actor Tom Hanks also made up a big place for himself as he too was selected as a Vice President by the same.
Producer of Big Daddy, Mr. Deeds and The Master of Disguise Ganis began his film career in marketing and publicity and worked at several studios, finally joining Lucasfilm. Here he served as Senior Vice President of the company for many years. He has been on the Academy’s Board of Governors from last 21 years. He has been also the President of Paramount Pictures in 1990 and Vice President of Columbia Pictures.

Winner of two Oscars (Philadelphia in 1993 and Forrest Gump in 1994) and Emmy winning director Tom Hanks was appointed as a governor of the academy’s actors branch. He also happens to be a voice-over artist and a producer with seven consecutive US$100 million blockbusters in Hollywood.
The Oscars are the film fraternities top honors given out annually. The 80th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
