ABC film critic Joel Siegel passed away at the age of 63 after battling with colon cancer for a while. He was surrounded by loved ones when he died in New York. This is a big loss for ABC and the film industry as well.
Joel Siegel is famous for the weekend reviews . ABC network called him a brilliant reporter and a superb reviewer.
Siegel was an UCLA graduate who started his early life as a freelance writer and a radio disc jockey(DJ). Through is writing, he became well known with the LA Times. He moved to the east coast and became a reporter with the WBCS TV in 1972. Eventually he got on the ABC network and covered ‘Good Morning America’. He worked with the ABC network since 1981. In 1997, he was diagnosed with colon cancer. He was awarded the New York Emmy award for his achievements.
Siegel is popular for his sense of humor and movie criticism. I can now reckon this guy since I used to be a regular viewer of the ABC show ‘Good Morning America’.
On Fridays, the show would have movie reviews. It didn’t matter how bad the movie was. He would still bring in some humor out of the blue. However, the only rival he had in the media was Kevin Smith.
ABC president Dave Davis acknowledges Joel’s sense of humor and movie review skills:
No one had more fun writing about a bad movie than Joel
Joel was very concerned about the cancer issues as soon as he found out that he had one. I think when you know that your life’s going to be taken away from you just like that you are more aware than anything else.Joel lobbied for people affected with Cancer. He is survived by his family which includes his son Dylan and wife Ena Swansea. All I can say is ‘May he rest in peace’.
